I hope this has given you some ideas on part 1 of Kew Gardens.
I am going to talk you through making your own now.
This is what we are going to recreate. |
Step 1
Buy a nice big planter (stone preferably)
Step 2
Position it where you want it to be.
If stone it will be heavy, so plan it first.
Step 3
Buy some ordinary Garden Compost
(multi purpose is fine) from a Garden
Centre ideally.
Step 4
Fill it up to the top of the planter.
Do not be mean with it.
Step 5
Ready to choose
a selection
of plants
Step 6
Trailing geraniums (hardy,
suculent are good) or upright
geraniums. Red, white whatever
you can find and like.
Lobelias (dark blue, or white
or pale blue would work fine).
Small low growing as in Planter
here. If not find something that
looks similar to these.
Step 7
How many?
It depends on the size of your
planter, so use your judgement
and more is better than less.
Here they have used
quite a lot so it is full
and looks great.
Step 8
Plant it up. Be artistic,
plant the bigger plants
first around the edges
and may be a different
colour in the centre.
Use a trowel and your hands.
Make a hole deep enough
to plant each plant. Push the compost
in around it. Push it down firmly.
Step 9
Plant the rest of your
flowers. Be creative,
do not worry too much.
It is your planter.
Step 10
Water them well with a watering
can, and a spray hose at the end.
Pat yourself on the back!
How have you got on with your planters?
Please do let me know.

Should you top off the compost with gravel or anything, around the plants?
Hello friend. Welcome.
Thanks so much for first comment.
Well it is not really necessary. If it is raised up
then it is going to be fine. All the plants will grow
together so there really won't be any room or need.
Happy Planting. Let me know how you get on please.
Keep reading. I will do a hanging basket too next.
